Okay so I know my last review of the PopSugar box was a little harsh, but I honestly was not super impressed with their first box.
Someone on MakeupTalk posted a code to get Septembers box for $18, so I ended up doing that because I KNEW that they would at least have that much product in the box.
Normally they run $35 a month, and the box can be anything. It's more of a lifestyle box than a beauty box. The PopSugar Team picks out their favorite products and sends out a box of goodies to subscribers!
So you can get food, makeup, household items, pretty much anything that the editors deem as a "Must Have" for the season.
Since it was for September, they chose the beginning of Fall as the theme! The box it comes in is a pretty large sized white box. I don't know if you can tell, but if you look closely in the photo there, the box is about the same size as my footstool is. These are way larger than your average sub box!
Opening the box, there is a card with the description of the theme, the month it's for, and the products on the back. Then you open it up, and there's a black tulle type bag with more goodies in it! I like that they use those bags, because you can reuse them for gifts wrap, or just around the house to hold random items.
Here's a peak showing the black bag, the card, and some of the products!
The first thing I saw was some Sweet Potato chips. Truth be told, I'll probably end up giving them away because I just really am not a fan of sweet potatoes. I've tried them over and over and they just do not taste good to me.
So this was probably the one item in the whole box that I was not super stoked on getting. That said I can just give them to a family member, so it's not that bad.
I took everything out of the bag and put it in there so you can see how much stuff they pack in these boxes!
Starting with the sweet potato chips and going clockwise, we have a notepad from Rifle Paper Company, a cookie from PopUp Pantry, Salted Caramels from beckysblissfulbakery.com, Say Yes to Cucumbers makeup removal wipes, Benefits Cabana Glama, Kitch hairties, and then a Brokedown Scarf! As you can see, that's a lot of stuff!
The scarf is GORGEOUS. It's got a beautiful fringework pattern and the color is a nice warm grey that will be perfect for fall. It's a really large size, it's big enough that you could also use it on the back of a couch or chair for decoration/cover. The scarf alone is worth $84 at BrokeDown Clothing.com
Next there was more stuff hiding underneath!
Here's a close up of the products.
The caramels come with a card explaining them. There's also a discount card to Tracie Martyn's skincare line, for $25 off. That was probably the worst item in the box, because it was just a random coupon code card, and the whole line is just really really expensive. I don't know about you, but I don't personally have an extra $400 to spend on face serum! $25 off when it's that price point is like a drop in the bucket. However, also in the box is the book Perks of Being a Wallflower and tucked inside the book is a voucher for two free movie tickets to see it in the theater! That was unexpected and really awesome. I already have the book from when it came out in 1999, but I'll pass this copy on to a friend.
Here you can see the pop up pantry cookie, the benefit set, the hair ties and another extra! A Must Have Popsugar themed little zip up bag for your purse. The bag is really nicely made, it is even lined! Super impressed with that.
The Benefit set is super nice. I love the Hula bronzer and have the full size of it which I use daily, so this was an awesome surprise. The Posie tint is a really nice pink color and I prefer the minis of those types of items because it's easier for me to use them up that way.
The eyeshadows are all in the neutrals I wear daily, and the Primer is way too dark for me, but it still works on my eyelids. All in all, super stoked!
The cookie lasted me a day, same with the caramels! The caramels were really softy and fresh, with that good salty subtle taste. The cookie tasted like a homemade snickerdoodle and it was really good!
Pop-Up Pantry is a service that delivers a gourmet meal to your door. Included in this months box was a code for a free meal, which is really nice! It's also a subscription service, so you do have to cancel after using the code, which is musthave9
I have to say, this box was totally worth the $18 I spent on it. The makeup kit alone costs that and everything else was like a really awesome bonus. It felt like I was opening a box of goodies I had ordered online somewhere because there was just SO MUCH in this box!
I ended up signing up for a 3 month subscription because there was a coupon code that knocked the price down to the price of 2 months worth. After seeing how awesome this September box was, I cannot wait to get Oct, Nov and Dec!
If you're interested in getting your own subscription to this, here's a link to their site: the code OPRAH is currently giving $10 off of your first month. October is already sold out, and November is flying out like hot cakes, so make sure you check it out and sign up if you are interested! They are sure to be great boxes from what I have seen so far.
