MyGlam for June

I was extremely confused when my MyGlam shipping notice arrived in my inbox, because the thing is, I lost my CC and I was waffling on cancelling MyGlam since it just hasn't been a good fit for me. I don't like the makeup bags they send, they just all seem extremely cheap to me, and since that's a token freebie in the beauty world, I have lots of them from GWP's and the like.

The products are usually alright, nothing has been terrible, but nothing has been outright super amazing to me either. I feel like pretty much everything I've liked so far, were things on my radar to try out, and it would have been cheaper to just try them outright instead of through this service.

Part of me is torn, because the CS team has been nothing but so so nice whenever there was a problem. They reinstated my sub through a special link when the website glitched out. So part of me feels like I owe it to them to give them a longer chance and stick with it a couple more months. Which is probably what I'll end up doing because I just really like to give things a fair chance.

 For those of you who do not know what MyGlam is, it's a monthly subscription service! It's $10 a month, or they have annual subscriptions available as well. I'm not sure if there is a waitlist right now or not, but there was when I originally signed up 4 months ago. The bags come in a super cute pink bubble mailer that I love. Also, shipping is SUPER FAST. Without fail, they will send out at least a week after Birchbox does, and still get to me at least 2 or 3 days before Birchbox arrives. Fast shipping! The packaging is always cute too. I love those pink mailers!


 Inside the mailer is a cosmetic bag containing the goodies. Every month has a theme and this months theme is All Night, so the bag is a glittery gold one.

Also included in the mailer are cards explaining various products, and a card with the theme on it.

 Okay next we have the contents!

From left to right we have:
1. "Living Proof" No Frizz nourishing style cream. The size sent is  2 fl oz. $15 retail.

2. Philosophies newest moisturizer, Take a deep Breath. The tube sent is their standard sample size of .4 fl oz. ~$8  (2oz retails for $34)

3. a NYX round lipstick in the color Vitamin!
I'm actually really happy I got this color and not some of the other darker ones. $4.00 retail.

4. Lastly is a Marbella Semi-Permanent liquid felt tipped eyeliner pen in Black. $25 retail.

Total value: Around $52.

That said, the "value" is kind of inflated a bit, since you can find the eyeliner pen on sale for $10, and the Philosophy sample was a freebie on their FB page today and I'm sure they'll include it as a GWP at some point.

All in all, I think everything is pretty good. This is their best bag so far that I have received. The lipstick is in a shade I can wear, the styling cream is something I will definitely use, I love Philosophy stuff, and the eyeliner pen will be useful for more dramatic looks.

That said, the fact that it's Semi-Permanent is a little scary to me! I don't use black eyeliner, so I am kind of bad at putting it on. The last thing I want is to have to walk around for days wearing the same exact eyeliner. But if you wear black eyeliner daily, this definitely could be a super useful product!
It really is permanent. I swatched it on my hand and there's still a faint black line where I drew. Also impressive to me is the complete lack of feathering and bleeding, even on my hand!

The lipstick color as you can see here, is a shimmery coral pink color that is really pretty.

Here's a swatch of it on my hand. My skintone is NW15 in M.A.C, Ivory/Fair.

The consistency is really nice. It's creamy and moisturizing and doesn't smell or feel waxy like most lipsticks.
I don't know if most companies have changed their formulas, but I swear when I was in high school all the lipsticks available were soooo waxy.
This feels like a lip balm almost because it's so easy to apply.

Here's a swatch on my lips. As you can see, it's almost a nude color.
I wasn't sure how well I liked it in the tube, but on I think it's pretty nice and definitely wearable.

Was this bag worth the $10?
I don't really know yet. I'm going to try out the other products and come back to let you know. To be honest, I feel like the standout item are the lipsticks, and they only retail for about $4.

MyGlam February Bag!

I subscribed to MyGlam after reading about the first months box, and then seeing youtube videos. Unfortunately, there seems to have been a lot of drama surrounding them since last month when I subscribed, so I was a little worried.
I'm not going to get into what happened on here, just because you can easily read about that all. I would rather keep things to my own experience.

In order to sign up, I was put on a waitlist, because the box has gotten extremely popular. Once they emailed me to say I could sign up, I jumped on it.
The website is easy to navigate, so that made things really straightforward.

It's $10 a month, so I honestly don't expect it to be the same as my Maven box that I adore. I figure this will probably showcase a few things that are new to me, but I don't expect super high end things in it like I would other boxes.

The feburary myglam came in the signature pink bubble mailer, which I thought was really cute. Even the ladies at the post office noticed!

Everything arrived in great condition, sealed properly, no leaks or broken products.

Here's the contents, there are the cards detailing the contents, with a message on one side of the postcard and the product list on the other.
Then there is a promo card from NYX, and  XOut, with deals for MyGlam subscribers.

The bag is super cute, right? I really like it.

Included in the bag were the following: A gift certificate for $100 for NuMe hair products, Xout shine control oil free formula, Freeman Facial Hydration Masque with Goji Berry, a rollball of NYX shimmer, two sample packets of Premier brand Moisture Complex, and Instant Stretching & Revitalizing Masque, and then a box containing 2 Ghiradelli chocolate squares.

Here's a swatch of the NYX shimmer roller that I received. Mine is in the color Taupe. To be honest, I am not a huge fan of most of the colors that the rollers come in. This color just looks like glittery sand/dirt on me, and it's definitely not something I will ever wear. But pretty much the only color I would wear out of all the available shades, is the white one. Unfortunately that's the gamble that comes with these subscription boxes.

Thoughts on the box:
Was it amazing? Not really. Was it worth $10? Sure. It's fun to get mail, and I will use the masque. The NuMe certificate is cool, except for the fact that everything on their site costs over $200, so it's really not THAT great of a deal. I might just end up giving away my code, since I already have a straightener.

The Ghiredelli chocolate was nice, but I live in California, so it's really nothing special to me. It's literally in EVERY grocery store around here, so it's easily obtainable.

The Freeman masque is cool, it reminds me of the face masks I used to use in junior high.

To be honest, This bag feels like it was made for a Tween Girl, not an adult woman. The bag is pretty juvenile in style, albiet cute. The products are all geared towards teenage girls, or are something I would have used when I was about 14 years old.
I'm not as disappointed as most are with this, but I'm also not jumping for joy over anything, nor do I plan on ordering any of the products that they gave special deals on.

I vastly prefer my Julep subscription to this one, and will keep this one a couple more months before deciding for sure if I am cancelling. But I feel like the Julep team puts a lot more effort into their products and they have much more high end things instead of drugstore stuff that a teenage girl would pick out. It's not that the stuff is bad, I'm just completely not the age bracket for it at all.

MyGlam by Michelle Phan: Sign Ups Open!

So, like many others curious about monthly subscription services, I came across Birchbox, and MyGlam. After watching numerous videos and talking to friends who subscribed to Birchbox, I decide that that was not a great option for me.
I already have lots of regular sized samples, just from shopping at Sephora. I generally wait until they have good codes that give you 12 samples at once, plus the 3 you already get for ordering. After a few times of doing that, I literally have an entire hat box full of stuff that I've been using.
 If I get samples, I prefer full sized or deluxe sized products [who doesn't, I know]

Back in November, I heard the buzz about the MyGlam box, but unfortunately, it was at the same time as everyone else, and subscriptions filled up before I was able to get one.
I expected it to be like Birchbox, so I wasn't super disappointed. Then I saw the videos of people opening them & realized that I really wanted to join this subscription service!

So what IS MyGlam? It's a monthly subscription service of deluxe or full sized beauty products from companies such as Urban Decay, Tarte, Wen, and other companies. They also post tutorials on the products, so that you can check out how to use them, which I thought was a great bonus. The cost is $10 a month, or you can purchase a whole year for $110, and get a box for free. What you are getting is a surprise, but they do give out hints. You take a quiz when you sign up, which you are not able to change the answers on, so answer honestly on it! Then you pick if you want the recurring monthly or the yearly subscription.

BeautyMint Revealed!

The website for Beautymint, which is a skincare based monthly subscription site, is launching soon this month.

Beautymint is a sister site from JewelryMint and StyleMint, and Jessica Simpson is the celebrity spokeswoman, with Dr. Joy.

Users fill out a 17 question skincare quiz, which will match you up with products. Similar to Beautyfix, Birchbox, Beauty Tube and Julep Maven, you are assigned products based on your skincare profile. http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif

The website says that "BeautyMint offers a four-piece kit for $39.99 and a five-piece kit at $49.99. Each kit provides a 30-day supply of each product."

Personally I'm a little unsure if I'll join, I might just do 1 month to see what it's like. But at this point, another $50 a month subcription service is much more than I can afford.

It sounds like a really neat program though, and I'm excited about the launch! I'll keep you all posted once it does launch.
